WE'VE ONLY JUST BEGUN

Last Updated 23rd May 2002

Back in 1970 a Demo album was released promoting a selection of songs by the newly formed writing partnership of Paul Williams and Roger Nichols. All the songs were sung by Paul Williams. Many of the songs appeared on subsequent Paul Williams solo albums. There are some great early versions of popular Paul Williams classics.

That album entitled 'We've Only Just Begun' has recently been released on import from Japan and can be purchased from Amazon here.

SOFT AS A ROCK (Featuring Paul Williams)

Last Updated 22nd May 2001

Back in 1998 David Ponak of the Mello Cads organized the first Paul Williams Tribute Concert in LA. (See here for full details)

This was followed by the Losers Lounge organizing a similar tribute to Paul in New York last year
(See here for full details)

On 22nd May I received the following exciting news:

The Mello Cads
album, Soft As A Rock, was released this week and features Paul Williams.  He does a duet on the record,  and a spoken part.  The album contains 2 of Paul's early tracks sung by the Mello Cads. The Drifter, which can also be found on the recent 'We've Only Just Begun' album (see above), as well as To Put Up With You from the Someday Man album .

What is exciting is that one of the three bonus tracks is another version of The Drifter - featuring Paul himself

RECENT APPEARANCES BY PAUL WILLIAMS

PAUL WILLIAMS ON "WHAT'S MY LINE? - LIVE ON STAGE"

Paul appeared in a live show called "What's My Line? - Live One Stage" at the Acme Comedy Theatre on Wed. Nov. 2nd, 2005. It was exactly like the show that ran 25 years on TV. This was their 1st Anniversary Show. He was the Mystery Guest and the audience went wild when he walked out and signed in.

The panel included Rose Marie, known for her role on The Dick Van Dyke Show, Ann Magnuson, well known actress and singer, Actors Barry Saltzman and Gary Anthony Williams, Kate Linder who plays Esther Valentine on The Young and The Restless soap opera on TV and Dick Van Patten.

Pianist, Adam Chester, played a medley of Paul's songs and Paul talked about how he was inspired to write each song. Paul sang Rainbow Connection and brought the house down. J. Keith Van Straaten was the host and Jim Newman is the director.

Eliot Hochberg took some great pictures at the show. See a gallery of his pictures starting here

Thanks to Sally Schaub for her account and Eliot Hochberg for making the pictures available.

PAUL WILLIAMS ON TARGET

Hi ..
I'm happy to announce a couple of new albums I'm part of ... "New Music From an Old Friend" on Targets newly formed 180 Music, contains three PW compositions ..

Carole King sings "Say Goodbye Today" a new song I co-wrote with the legendary King .. and the title cut "New Music From and Old Friend" sung by Jane Monheit is all mine .. words & music! Lastly, Willie Nelson and I perform "The Rainbow Connection" .. It's
the cut from my DVD revamped and sweetened by Phil Ramone for this very special album.

The other album I'm proud to be on is Jason Mraz, 'Influences' album. It's a collection of Jason's favorite songs by the artists he heard
perform them . The last cut on the album is a newly recorded duet of Jason and I doing an intimate interpretation of "The Rainbow Connection".. with Chris Caswell on piano and accordian it's a wonderful version I think.

180 music will be sold in all of Targets nearly 1500 stores beginning in a few days. The collection of artists being made available to their
shoppers at a remarkably reasonable price) is the elite of the music world... truly world class artists and writers. It's an honor to be included in their repetoire.

Thanks for your support
Paul Williams

CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE STAGE

Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfield created the `Chicken Soup for The Soul' book series (See here). The New York Times `Ten Year Top 100' best seller list includes 6 of those books. They've sold over 100 million and they're basically inspirational stories that are designed to motivate and comfort .. Over the years they've been edited for specific groups .. Chicken soup for the golfers soul .. the convicts .. the teenager .. the boating soul .. etc. etc.

I met Mark and he thought it was a natural for us to team up. He and his wife Patty .. (a regular contributor to the books) and I are going to write a book together .. Chris Caswell and I will provide the songs. The goal is to create `Chicken Soup for the Stage' ... an inspirational musical about ... well, what it's about will be decided when we begin working on it.

BUGSY MALONE DOCUMENTARY

31st December 2003

Last Updated 1st January 2004

On the 2nd June 2003 I was contacted by the production company with the following update

"The website has been taken down for the simple fact that we have finished filming the programme. We spent two weeks filming in America and caught up with Jodie Foster, John Cassisi, Scott Baio, Florrie Dugger - and of course Paul Williams (what a nice man.)

Since we returned we have been cracking on with the Bugsy edit. The programme is due for broadcast in August, but these things often change. I will confirm the date and time of transmission."

Finally on 15th December I got the news I had been waiting for:

Hi David

At last, I can confirm that the Bugsy documentary has a transmission date! The programme will be shown on ITV1 in the UK on New Years Eve (31st December 2003) at 3.50pm.

Hope you enjoy!

Richard Mortimer
Associate Producer
Yorkshire Television

I would love to hear from anyone else who saw it.
