"On 7th July 1998 Claire Carpentier 'launched' a campaign to have Paul Williams inducted into the "SONGWRITERS' HALL OF FAME". I fully support the idea as I feel Paul is one of the greatest lyricists and deserves loads of recognition . I'll let Claire explain her idea:
Hi David
I am starting a campaign to have Paul inducted into the "SONGWRITERS' HALL OF FAME". I talked to the secretary of the 'Hall of Fame' and she said I could send my nomination to the office and she would make sure that the Board of Directors received it. They would discuss the nomination and decide if Paul should be included into the Hall of Fame.
What I would like to do is ask all Paul Williams' fans to email me requesting that Paul be nominated and inducted into the Hall of Fame, and to also include as to why they feel Paul should be in the Hall of Fame.
I would then print and mail all the responses I received along with mine, and I will include a detailed biography of Paul's
musical career. Hopefully we'll catch the attention of the Board of Directors so that they would have no choice but to induct Paul into the "SONGWRITERS' HALL OF FAME".
I also plan on contacting people in the business who has worked with Paul and
ask them if they will also send in their nomination. I would also like your help in spreading the word. The more letters
we send the better the chances are that the Board of Diretors will listen to the fans.
Thanks. Claire
(Over the years Claire has collected a great deal of information on Paul and has been of invaluable help to me in compiling these 'Paul Williams Music And Acting Pages'. Read Claire's account of her recent contact with Paul on "Paul Williams - Personal Experiences (Page Two)" page.)
On 4th August 1998 I received an email from Claire Carpentier with the latest news about the campaign to have Paul Williams inducted into the 'Songwriters' Hall Of Fame:
"Hi everyone
Just a small note to let you know that the Songwriters Hall of Fame received the nominations. (Claire sent off 43 supporting letters in all). I called them today and
the secretary said that she would make sure that the nominating committee will get them when they meet in about a week
or so. All we have to do now is wait. I will call them back in a few weeks to see what their progress is. I'll let you
know when the nominations have been announced.
Thank you all for your nominations!

On 30th September 1998 I received an email from Claire Carpentier with further news about the campaign to have Paul Williams inducted into the 'Songwriters' Hall Of Fame:
WE DID IT!
Paul Williams has been nominated by the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The ballots will be going out to members of the National Academy of Popular Music for voting. Paul is one of five nominated. Paul is up against James Taylor, Bruce Springstien, Diane Warren, and Michael Jackson. Out of the five only one will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Sarah and I will
be able to vote on this ballot and we'll keep you informed as to the outcome.
Thank you to everyone who sent in their nominations of support. It wouldn't of happened without your help.
All we have to do now is keep our fingers crossed and maybe say a little prayer.
Take Care

On 14th December 1998 I received an email from Claire Carpentier announcing the results of the campaign to have Paul Williams inducted into the 'Songwriters' Hall Of Fame:
Hi Everyone
I just wanted to let you know that Paul was not inducted into this years Songwriters Hall of Fame. It was Bruce Springstein who will receive this honor.
I would like to thank you all for your letters of support. We will try again next year and keep trying till the Hall of
fame sees the light and inducts Mr.. Williams into the Hall of Fame.
If you have any questions please feel free to email me, and I will try to answer them to the best of my ability.
CLAIRE CARPENTIER at
Thank you once again!
Claire
A real blow, but as Claire said there is always next year. I am aware how much
was put into the submission, and would like to thank
all for the hard work which
put into getting all the information together to make, what the committee obviously felt was a great submission.
