How To Lobby For Paul Williams Return To 'The Bold And The Beautiful'

Last Updated 13th October 1998

Paul with Claire Carpentier

On 10th October 'Scott Novick - The Bold And The Beautiful Page' had the following report on Paul Williams exit from 'The Bold And The Beautiful':

It's been confirmed by several sources that Paul Williams will be leaving his role of Bailey soon, either late October or early November. Until now, Williams had been listed as "recurring", meaning he would make occasional non-contract appearances, but now it seems like this recent addition to B&B will be gone completely.

On 13th October 1998 I heard the following news:

It has recently come to our attention that although Paul is leaving "The Bold and the Beautiful," it was not by his choice. Paul loved playing the recovering alcoholic "Bailey" on the show and was surprised, after being told that he was to become the next villain, to have his contract end. Although he was given a two year contract.

We are asking Paul's fans along with the fans of the Bold and the Beautiful to write letters in support of Paul staying on the show to

CBS at:

Paul with June (JJ) Jones

Maybe with our help, Paul will be kept to the end of his two year contract.

Thank you for your support

When asked whether Paul would object to the above, Paul's agent Kelly said:

"Paul loved playing the character 'Bailey' in 'The Bold and the Beautiful'. The future of 'Bailey' is a creative uncertainty at this moment. There is always the possibilty for his return depending on Paul's schedule.

I always appreciate any show of support from Paul's fans. If folks out there would like to let the producers of 'The Bold and the Beautiful' know how much you enjoy Pauls work on the show, I think that would be great.

Thanks
Kelly Newby"

My email to executive producer/head writer Bradley Bell of THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL, about the way Paul has been taken off the show.

Last Updated 21st October 1998

On 20th October I sent the following email to Bradley Bell expressing my feelings about Paul being axed from the show.

Dear Mr. Bell,

I am writing to express my concern about Paul Williams being axed from 'The Bold And The Beautiful'.

As author of a Web page dedicated to Paul Williams I had been eagerly following Paul's progress on your show.

From direct contact with Paul and his manager Kelly Newby I was delighted to hear that Paul had been given a two year contract. I admired the fact that you were willing to have the character Bailey who had a history of substance abuse and were willing to explore these issues in the show. As I know this is a subject dear to Paul's heart I felt he would be an ideal actor to explore this aspect of life in your show.

I was intrigued when I heard that Paul's character was to develop into the 'baddy' on the show as Paul has played similar characters to good effect in the past.

I was therefore surprised and saddened when I heard within days of the publicity about Paul being the 'baddy' in the show, to hear that he was to be axed from it.

I feel that it is unprofessional to offer a two year contract, talk about building a character up, only so soon afterwards to shoot him down. I am aware that Paul enjoyed his role in the show and was looking forward, and committed to, developing the character of Bailey.

I would therefore encourage you to reconsider Baileys future in the show, and allow Paul to fully develop the character of Bailey and the role of recovery in your show.

Thank you for taking time to read this and I look forward to your reply.

Yours Sincerely

David Chamberlayne
